Can dogs go on the Nevis gondola?
Owners can take their dogs in the Gondola and then enjoy scenic walks to one of the two mountain viewpoint trails. We ask that they are kept on a lead at all times. Your dogs are allowed in the Snowgoose Restaurant & Bar or the Pinemarten Cafe Bar but must be kept on a lead at all times.
For novices, we'd recommend the 'Mountain Path' (also known as the 'Pony Track' or 'Ben Path'). It's the simplest way to the top, and also the most popular. You'll usually start at Achintree on the east side (if you've parked at the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre or youth hostel, you'll start at west side).
There are two main walking routes up Ben Nevis. The Mountain Track (sometimes called the Tourist Track or the Pony Track) is used by most walkers, whilst the Carn Mor Dearg Arête route presents a more challenging climb for more experienced hikers.
You do need to be reasonably fit to tackle Ben Nevis, with good stamina to enable you to keep going – and remember that coming down is just as hard on your legs as going up! If you haven't climbed hills in Scotland before, there are plenty of lower ones nearby you can try first to get an idea of how fit you are.
Can I take my dog? Yes, preferably on a lead so as not to impede other walkers. Be aware that sheep graze up to around 700 metres. Also the second part of Ben Nevis is a terrain of scree, loose stones which can be hard on a dog's pads.

Are there Toilets? There are toilets at the Visitor Center you can use but they are only available during the Center's opening hours. There are NO TOILETS on Ben Nevis itself.
In general, summiting Ben Nevis is a challenging walk that'll likely prove more difficult than reaching the peak of Snowdon. It's a considerably longer climb and has no equal in the whole of the UK when it comes to sheer size and elevation gain.
If you are climbing Ben Nevis between November and early May then you should plan to take crampons and a single mountaineering ice axe. Early in the winter season the snow cover will be thin and it will come and go, but it doesn't take long for the snow to build up and for crampons and an axe to become essential.
Climbing Ben Nevis between June and September will provide your best chance to avoid the chance of extreme weather conditions and snow disrupting your challenge. Check the Met Office weather forecast for Ben Nevis here.
Should you train before climbing Ben Nevis?
Anyone who is reasonably fit with no health problems should be able to walk up and down Ben Nevis in under 8 hours. You shouldn't need to 'train' specifically for the walk, but of course any extra uphill walking beforehand will help and the fitter you are then the more you'll enjoy it!
Ben Nevis Route
Large cairns mark the final ascent to the trig point which marks the peak - snow will often nearly obscure these cairns until around May each year. Popularly known as The Pony Track, this route is 10.5 miles long, 17km, up and down, and includes 1352 metres of ascent.

For the average walk up Ben Nevis, you can expect to burn an excess of 3000 calories.
Ben's Walk is an on lead dog friendly walking track of approximately 5.5 kilometres in length. The track meanders along the banks of the Shoalhaven River through native bushland, which is the home of birds such as Lewins Honeyeater, the Little Pied Cormorant and the Golden Whistler.

The Blind Worm Snake is fairly common, even if not commonly seen in both St. Kitts and Nevis. The species are seen in Montserrat, Barbuda, Antigua and St. Kitts and Nevis.
You can enter or return to GB with your pet cat, dog or ferret if it: has been microchipped. has a pet passport or third country veterinary health certificate. has been vaccinated against rabies – it will also need a blood test if you're travelling from an unlisted country.

Are there bears in Ben Nevis?
Other animals which were once commonplace to the area around Ben Nevis but are no longer found in its habitats include wild boars, lynx, elks, and, back in the 10th century, brown bears.
For our Ben Nevis walks, you won't need specialist hiking gear, but you will need sturdy walking boots, suitable clothing for cold temperatures and waterproof layers. You'll also want to bring supplies, such as drinks, snacks and lunch to keep your energy levels up.
A cheeky ascent of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, should keep you midge free.
Ben Nevis is purportedly the hardest mountain (and highest peak) of the Three Peaks Challenge. That's why people tend to do it first if they're taking the 24 hour challenge.

Snowdon is often found to be the easiest of the 3 peaks. People can be feeling slightly revived after a little sleep on the way from Scafell and the new day seems to bring renewed energy.
There are no toilets on the mountain, the only access you have to toilets is at the Ben Nevis Visitors center. The opening hours of these change during the year so it is worth checking with them if you have any questions.
You want to make sure your glycogen reserves are full and your body has plenty of glucose in your blood ready for Ben Nevis. Porridge, muesli, rice pudding etc. are good slow energy release foods for breakfast. Whilst walking, eat little and often to give your body a chance to digest the food and use the energy.
If you are an amateur walker, then you should only hike Ben Nevis during the summer months (June-September). Snow is often seen at the summit all year round, however during winter months the mountain is likely to be thick in snow and ice, covering the paths and making the journey to the top extremely dangerous.
A good 6-8 hour walk of moderate to hard grade from 35m to 1400m above sea level. Make sure when you go there is a chance of views. It is very cold at the top and snow even in August although this was a bad summer for Scotland.
Do you need ropes to climb Ben Nevis?
If you want to climb Ben Nevis via a different more challenging route, you will need technical experience and equipment, including helmets, harnesses and ropes.
The Ben Nevis ascent can be done in 1 day in both winter and summer and takes around 8 hours to complete. You can also choose to go on a longer program, covering more ground around Ben Nevis. A 5-day program will take you on different climbs close to the star peak, Ben Nevis.
If you are not very active or are very unfit, we would recommend asking yourself if you're able to do an 8+ hour roundtrip hike safely before setting out. If the answer's yes, then please just ensure you follow all the advice at the end of this post on important things to do and know before you climb Ben Nevis.
Scafell Pike is considered to be harder because it has a pretty steep incline. Part of the summit journey also involves a scree slope and this requires hikers to sort of scramble up. Therefore, it is tougher than Mount Snowdon and Ben Nevis. However, do not be discouraged!
Walking poles are recommended but not essential. Many people find they really benefit from the support of walking poles on the way back down. It normally feels much harder going down that it does going up, and walking poles can help a lot.
As it turns out, the piano is actually an organ, and has been on the mountain for more than 35 years. Kenny Campbell, a woodcutter from the Highlands, told the Telegraph he carried it up the summit as a stunt to raise money for a charity cancer in 1971.
THE GONDOLA DOES NOT GO UP BEN NEVIS!!! Hello everyone - after reading through these posts I had to post this information. The Nevis Range gondola mountain experience takes visitors 650m up the mountain of Aonach Mor.
2 answers. No - not really. The Nevis Range cable car goes up Aonach Mor mountain which is adjacent to Ben Nevis. Walking to Ben Nevis would effectively mean climbing down most of Aonach Mor to climb back up Ben Nevis.

Go for Ben Nevis but do your research and make sure you have everything you need and pick a day with good weather. Spring is probably too early as the top part of the path will be covered in snow. I would suggest june at the earliest but better july or august. All the best.
You can climb Ben Nevis. And you can climb it at night. But this is your opportunity to help light up the entire mountain with a team of like-minded people, while also raising money to protect the very area that we love, as well as a charity of your choice.
What climbing grade is Ben Nevis?
You will have incredible views of the north face of Ben Nevis the whole way. Although it is only a Grade 1 scramble, the ridgeline is very exposed.
If the goal is improved health and longevity, the Harvard Alumni Health study reported that climbing 10-19 flights a week (two to four flights per day) reduces mortality risk.
Although it's home to the Heavenly gondolas, dogs are technically not allowed to get on the ride (except for service animals, of course). GRRR. If you want to take your dog on a gondola ride in Tahoe, head to Northstar on the north shore (10 minutes from Truckee) where on-leash dogs are allowed.

Regulations: No Dogs - Dogs are not allowed on any trails or roads into Emerald Bay, nor on the beach. Dog regulations are enforced year-round.
Bonsai Rock is simply iconic and offers a great place to lounge for a little bit or catch some air before diving into the water. You can swim, kayak, paddle board or snorkel to get to this location. While dogs are allowed on Bonsai Rock getting them there and back may prove challenging.

The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.

Jan Juc is home to a number of surf breaks along the cliffs towards the iconic Bells Beach. Jan Juc is a timeshare dog friendly area and from the 1 December – 28 February and Easter dogs are only permitted off leash between 7 pm and 9 am. All other times dogs are allowed off leash, under control.
If you're bringing your dog along, you can book a slot at Tanjong Beach and choose either Zone 1 or Zone 2. For us, we prefer the Zone 1 area as there is more space for off-leash zoomies! You will have to choose between an AM or PM slot as well.
