What happens when you unlock all 120 shrines?
You get a new side quest, which sends you off to the Forgotten Temple. There is a shrine there, so it's pretty easy to fast-travel, assuming you have already completed the shrine. Or maybe it's your last shrine so you're already there!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BOTW) features a grand total of 120 Shrine locations to find and complete around the map. Each puzzle shrine contains at least one Treasure Chest and Spirit Orb.
Zelda: BOTW max hearts: Getting max hearts in means sacrificing stamina. There are 120 shrines in Breath of the Wild, each of which contains a spirit orb. You need four spirit orbs to upgrade either your maximum hearts or your maximum stamina.
The Trial of the Labyrinth is one of the most difficult shrine quests in the game simply due to its powerful enemies and maze structure. In the far north-east corner of Hyrule lies Lomei Labyrinth Island, which players can reach by paragliding from the cliffs of the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.
When you have found all the runes from the four Shrines, the Old Man will appear outside the last completed Shrine and tell you to meet him in the middle of where all four of these Shrines meet. Stamping where the lines meet and you get the Temple of Time.
The Old Man promises Link a paraglider in exchange for four Spirit Orbs, found by beating the Magnesis Trial in the Oman Au Shrine, the Bomb Trial in the Ja Baij Shrine, the Cryonis Trial in the Keh Namut Shrine, and the Stasis Trial in the Owa Daim Shrine.
This is one of the hidden Shrines in BotW. Location: Lakna Rokee Shrine is hidden in the forest with the fairy fountain directly east of Kakariko Village by a Sheikah sphere platform. The shrine is revealed by using the sphere from the The Stolen Heirloom quest line.

13 Defeat Guardian Scouts For More Ancient Cores
The only Guardian Scouts that drop BotW's Ancient Cores are the 3 and 4 variants, which are equipped with three different weapons and are very hard to beat. They're mostly found in shrines, and they all respawn with every Blood Moon.
Why are some shrines green?
The shrines added with The Champions' Ballad DLC appear in green on each map.
Players can pull the Master Sword in Botw only after obtaining a total of 13 full heart containers.

When it comes to the topic of stamina or hearts in BotW, most people opt for the former since the latter can still be compensated for with extra hearts from Hearty Food. In fact when it comes to health bonuses, having low hearts can actually be an advantage.
The major reward at the end is definitely the spirit orb that the monk passes on to Link. Additionally, for most of the shrines, there is one and only one hidden treasure chest.
You need to be observant and resourceful if you want to find all 120 shrines. One thing that's worth noting is that you can uncover some of the shrines that are attached to shrine quests without actually activating the quest.

The best armour in Breath of the Wild - speaking purely in terms of damage resistance provided in combat - is the Ancient Armour set of the Ancient Helm, Ancient Cuirass, and Ancient Grieves.

Read the Old Man's diary in his hut on the Great Plateau, then cook a meal using a spicy pepper, meat and a Hyrule bass. Show the meal to the Old Man, and he'll give you the warm doublet.
After you complete the four shrine trials, the old man will meet you and tell you to go to the place where two lines drawn between the four shrines would intersect. You can press Select to look at your map to find where those lines would intersect. When you go there, check on the glowing statue inside.

Tarrey Town is located in the middle of Lake Akkala across the natural bridge onto the large rock island in the Akkala region. Dah Hesho Shrine is located south of the town and Akkala Tower is west.

Location: Kihiro Moh Shrine is located in at the end of the Yiga Clan Hideout hidden in the valley of the Gerudo Highlands, near the giant pit - but you must complete a trial to reveal it.
In keeping with the 'Twin Memories' theme, each chest is hiding in essentially the same place in both shrines: if you ride the moving platform up to the observation platform, you may be able to see a ledge behind the wall closest to the platform (as in the screenshot above).
You will not be able to save once you start. Once you're in the trials, remember to take out the most dangerous enemies (ie: ranged enemies) first before going after the rest. Use your weapons wisely!
Shrine enemies will respawn (including "Test of Strength" guardians), but shrine chests will not.
What happens if you activate the shrine?
The Shrine can be activated every 14 hours. Upon activation, The Shrine will summon a Mystery Customer.
The loading screen which shows when you teleport or go into or out of a shrine or other location with a separate map shows you how many shrines you have completed. Additionally, when you complete the last shrine, you will get a special message telling you to go to the Forgotten Temple for a special reward.

Ancient Cores can drop as a random loot from certain Guardians. Guardian Stalkers, Guardian Skywatchers, and Guardian Turrets will drop this material. The Guardian Scout III and Guardian Scout IV will rarely drop this item as well.

You can upgrade the Master Sword's base damage to 40, 50, or 60 by completing the Trial of the Sword as part of The Master Trials DLC, which we'll outline below. If you upgrade it to damage 60, the weapon becomes unbreakable, but you'll still need to recharge it after a while.

Like anything else in Breath of the Wild, you can tackle the divine beasts at your leisure, visiting them in any order you want at any time you want. If you want to finish all 120 shrines and get the Master Sword before cleansing a single divine beast, nobody is stopping you.
Are there more than 120 shrines?
After completing all the shrines, we can confirm that there are 120 of them in Breath of the Wild.
Lighting all 49 shrines in Medici will unlock unlimited free fast travel throughout all of Medici, even in areas like the Volcano and Boom Island, which aren't in a specified region. Rebel Shrines appear as a small, blue roofed platform with multiple candles inside. To complete the shrine, Rico lights the candles.
Finding these will then unlock one final 13th memory, which in turn also adds a bonus scene to the game's ending. There's also five story-specific memories to find which you'll unlock as you complete the Divine Beasts and Master Sword.
The giant elephant Vah Ruta is an easy first choice, as it's closest to the place where you initially get the quest to cleanse the beasts.
